When I started Purpose CPA, the goal was not simply to build another accounting firm, but to build one that creates value for our team, our clients, and the communities we serve.
In 2025, much of our focus shifted inward toward supporting our people. As our firm and client base grew, so did the demands of the work. This year we spent time strengthening how we support our team — building systems, benefits, and a workplace that helps employees balance meaningful careers with their personal lives and family responsibilities.
Supporting Entrepreneurs Through Education
One of the most meaningful ways an accounting firm can create impact is by sharing knowledge.
Tax and accounting can be intimidating for many entrepreneurs. A lack of accessible financial knowledge often becomes a barrier to starting or growing a business.
Throughout the year, Purpose CPA delivered tax and financial literacy sessions for entrepreneurs and community organizations. We partnered with CPABC, BBABC, and WeBC to share practical guidance and help founders better understand their financial responsibilities.
Our goal is simple: reduce the fear around accounting so entrepreneurs can focus on building their businesses.
Giving Back to the Communities We Serve
We believe businesses should contribute to the communities that support them.
Purpose CPA maintains a dedicated charitable giving budget and continues our commitment to donate 1% of firm revenues to organizations that support entrepreneurship and community development.

Team members also receive individual social impact budgets to support causes that matter to them.
Through organizations like The Forum for Women’s Entrepreneurs, we help support programs that give women founders access to mentorship, networks, and capital. Through NEST Foundation, we contribute to projects that improve access to clean water, education, and sustainable livelihoods globally.
Environmental Responsibility
As a digital-first accounting firm, our operational footprint is relatively small, but we still believe it is important to measure and understand our environmental impact.
In 2025, we continued calculating our annual carbon emissions and encouraging digital workflows to minimize paper usage. Remote work arrangements also help reduce commuting emissions.
Environmental responsibility is an ongoing process, and measurement helps guide future improvements.
Investing in Our People
The most important impact we create as a firm begins with the people who work here.
Throughout the year we continued refining our benefits, workplace design, and development opportunities to better support our team.

Evolving Employee Benefits
In 2025, we expanded our Health Spending Account into a flexible HSA / WSA (Wellness Spending Account) program.
This change recognizes that employees take care of their health in different ways, whether through medical services, mental wellness support, or fitness programs.
We also introduced additional benefits for staff reaching two years of service and began recognizing long-term contributions with five-year service gifts.
Our goal is to ensure our benefits continue to reflect the evolving needs of our team.
Supporting Flexible Work and Real Life Responsibilities
Purpose CPA operates as a remote-first firm where flexibility is built into how we work.
Our team members live different lives and carry different responsibilities. Some are building their careers, while others are raising families or caring for loved ones. Several experienced hires support elderly parents or help care for grandchildren, and flexible work arrangements allow them to continue contributing professionally.
We also issued T2200 forms to all staff, allowing employees to claim eligible home office expenses and reduce their personal taxes.
As a professional services firm, we still track hours billed. However, we emphasize working efficiently and intelligently by providing systems that help staff manage their work effectively — giving them more time with their families.
Creating a Hybrid Workplace
While remote work provides flexibility, collaboration and shared learning remain important.
In 2025, we launched a monthly coworking program designed to bring the team together for collaboration and mentorship. Rather than simply renting a space, we intentionally designed the experience — selecting locations, aesthetics, and amenities that support focused and meaningful work.
In early 2026, this evolved into a hybrid working model that blends remote flexibility with structured opportunities for in-person collaboration.
Our goal is to ensure employees have what they need to succeed both at home and in shared workspaces.
Building a Multi-Generational Workplace
We believe organizations are stronger when they include people from different generations and life stages.
Our team includes co-op students, early-career professionals, and experienced hires, many of whom balance work with family or caregiving responsibilities.
For younger team members, we prioritize hands-on learning and meaningful client exposure. For experienced professionals, we provide flexible arrangements that allow them to contribute their knowledge while meeting personal obligations.
Bringing together these perspectives creates a workplace where mentorship, learning, and experience support one another.
Strengthening Ethical and Professional Standards
As a licensed accounting firm, we have a responsibility to uphold professional standards that protect the public interest.
During the year, we strengthened firm policies and staff training related to:

These initiatives help ensure our firm continues to operate with integrity while maintaining the trust placed in our profession.
Closing Thoughts
Impact often begins with the small, everyday decisions a business makes — how it treats its people, how it supports its community, and how it carries out its professional responsibilities.
For us, 2025 was a year of strengthening the foundation of our firm by investing in our team and refining how we work together. As we continue to grow, we remain committed to building a firm that supports its people, serves its clients responsibly, and contributes positively to the communities around us.
